Set Building 101

£90.00

I struggled with set building in still life and portrait photography, but over the past 15 years, it has become a passion of mine. In this workshop, I want to share my knowledge with you, guiding you through the process of creating small sets at home all the way up to larger studio setups. Moreover, I will delve into the art of curating sets, discussing the selection of colors and lighting techniques, while addressing the when, how, and, as always, the why behind it all. What’s great about this workshop is that you don’t need an expansive studio space to…

Testimonials

Scott is a fantastic resource for anyone in the commercial photography world. He is incredibly honest, shares his vast knowledge openly and covers everything from technical tips to business admin. His content is always current and highly practical for both beginners and advanced photographers. Tin House Studio offers affordable, high-value learning and it is always money well spent!

Lighting has always been one of those things where I spend hours on YouTube… think I’ve learnt what I need to, then 5 minutes later have forgotten. It can be overwhelming when looking at multiple light setups, but honestly Scott makes it so simple and covers every lighting setup you’d need.

I did the 1-2-1 mentoring session with Scott and it was great for helping me focus my business and think clearly about where I want to go next.

His depth of experience in his own career and with other photographers was supremely useful when trying to get perspective on my own work, and he was constructive with his comments.

I’d highly recommend the 1-2-1 mentoring, and frankly I can see myself doing it again.

I have been a student of Tin House Studios for many years now.

Between the free education and entertainment that Scott shares on YouTube, and the courses that I’ve purchased, namely Lighting and Business courses, Scott has been invaluable in helping move my, and an entire generation of photographer’s, career forward.

I’ have been shooting commercially for a while, but there were always these technical gaps I just couldn’t close by messing around on my own. Tin House Studio Access totally changed that for me. The videos cut straight to the point they are practical, easy to follow, and you can tell they come from actual experience in the commercial world, not that surface-level stuff you find all over YouTube.

Shooting still life and products takes a different level of precision. It isn’t something you pick up overnight. But going through the Studio Access material gave me the solid technical base and confidence I’d been struggling to find. If you’re serious about taking your commercial photography up a notch, honestly, this is money well spent.

Scott has been a pleasure to work with this year in a 1-2-1 mentorship. We’ve dived deep into my business and I’ve been able to finally get a clear marketing structure setup, as well as develop my personal style and how that fits into the real world industry. Scott brings a rare combination of commercial experience and genuine generosity with his knowledge, every session felt focused and honest, never generic. Having someone who truly understands the industry from both the perspective of a professional photographer and an agent, look critically at my work and business has been invaluable, and I’d recommend his mentorship to any photographer who’s serious about taking their career to the next level.

Scott’s YouTube channel has been a real resource for me, so I bought the marketing workshop. I went freelance last year after years working in-house, and it gave me a practical handle on the parts of the business I’d always found murky, pricing, positioning, and how to actually pitch yourself. It’s rare for someone with this much industry experience to share it so openly in a field that can feel so gated from the outside. Highly recommended to any photographer.

I have purchased many courses from Tin House Studios over the years to aid my creative journey. Scott’s down to earth approach to both the technical side of photography and the creative industry as a whole speaks volumes. He doesn’t provide meaningless instructions, but rather opens your mind and creativity to show you what can be achieved within your own style and ambitions. I have learnt what the industry expects, how things are done and what pitfalls to avoid along the way – something you’ll only ever learn by someone who has been there first hand.

Really enjoyed the workshop. It goes through some very specific steps to take when setting up a business, as well as common pitfalls to avoid, how to identify areas for improvement, pricing, negotiating with clients, and so on. Overall, a solid foundation to get you started

I have been following Scott on YouTube for many years and had learnt much from his tutorials and walkthroughs as I started my path into food photography. From YouTube I followed onto Patreon for a time and then became one of his first few hundred subscribers when Tinhouse Studios launched Studio Access. This proved to be an excellent investment of £10 monthly. The in depth knowledge provided is truly worth it and I can attest to now being very confident in the use of 1 light in my own work.
